A Record Number of Apple Sales has Been Reached
Apple has announced it sold a record number of its new iPhone models over the first weekend after their launch.
The iPhone 5s and 5c became available to consumers September 20th and by Monday morning had sold nine million units.
It follows scenes of hundreds of people queuing – some for days – in order to be some of the first to get their hands on the new gadget.
Apple’s chief executive Tim Cook said: “The demand for the new iPhones has been incredible and while we’ve sold out of our initial supply of iPhone 5s, stores continue to receive new iPhone shipments regularly.”
He added that the firm is “working hard” to build enough new iPhones for everybody and that they appreciate customers’ patience.
The technology giant has revealed that many online orders are due to be shipped in the coming weeks.
Apple’s latest handsets were unveiled on September 10th, at a launch event in California. It was the first time that the company had introduced two distinct types of smartphone at the same time.
In addition to the promising figures surrounding the iPhone 5s and 5c, over 200 million smartphones are now also running the iOS 7 software upgrade.
The Most Significant iOS Update
The updated operating system is described by Apple as “the most significant iOS update since the original iPhone” and offers a range of new features. Among those are enhanced versions of Safari and Siri, as well as improved multitasking and Apple’s Notification Centre.
A further addition comes in the form of the new iTunes Radio. This free internet radio service is based on the music the consumer listens to on iTunes, with Apple revealing 11 million unique listeners have already tuned in since its launch. The most listened to song is Hold On, We’re Going Home by Drake.
